We offer a variety of skating classes for all experience levels.

Learn to Skate.

At Boston Common Skating School, our Learn to Skate program is designed to teach the key lessons and skills needed to improve your skating. Whether you’re new to the ice or a seasoned skater, we’ll help sharpen your focus and provide greater balance on and off the ice.

 

Class Breakdown

Tots | Ages 3-5 years of age
Youth Beginner | 6+ years of age
Basic Skills | 6+ years of age
Teen Basics | 12-17 years of age
Adult | 18+ years of age

Hockey Combo | 5+ years of age with skating ability

 

Tots

This is a class dedicated for beginner skaters, who fall between the ages of 3-5. The class focuses on standing on skates, falling and getting up, as well as marching and pushing. Each class incorporates games, singing, and playgroup activities on the ice. 

Youth Beginner

Age range is 6 years old and up. This class is for beginner skaters to develop confidence in standing, pushing and basic skating skills through crossovers. Your child will gain confidence and speed through skill drills and games.

Basic Skills

This class is for skaters 6 years old and up who have learned the basics and would like to develop skills in crossovers, backward skating, tricks for figure skaters and hockey players. The sky is the limit in this class!

 

Jump and Spin Class

Jump and Spin is the class to launch your inner figure skating self! All students must have strong basic skating skills and would like to grow into learning the basics of jumps and spins. Skaters are required to skate in figure skates for this class so we can help you understand edges and how to use your toe pick.

Teen Basic

Skaters 12 -17 years old working on the basics of skating. We will help guide you in through skating while building confidence on the ice.

Adult (during Learn to Skate Hours)

This class is a basic skills adult class, no experience necessary. Please note this class is for parents/guardians of students that are signed up for learn to skate classes, as it will run simultaneously during our regular learn to skate classes.

Adult Small Group Class

We are embracing our ever-growing adult community and creating lots of space for you to learn and grow your passion for the ice! These designated hours of ice and classes are for our adult skaters of ALL levels. The session will be 1 hour long to include 30 minutes of a small group lesson of no more than 4 skaters based on ability and goals per coach and a 30 minute practice session. At the first lesson we will break out into small groups and work on our goals for the season.

Hockey Combo

This class is for kids currently playing on teams or thinking about playing next season and want to get a jump start on your skills. It will be 30 minutes of Power Skating and 20 Minutes of Skills and Drills. Groups will be broken out by age and ability.

Preschool Option

We have limited space during the week for children 2.5 years old and older for very small classes for 30 minute lessons on public ice during week days. Please email us if you are interested and we can let you know the availability.
